Camping during July 4th

I think we're crazy, but we decided to head to the beach on July 4th. Traffic was horrible and the inlet parking was closed by 9:30 am. We finally found a parking spot at the Convention Center on 40th Street. The sun was HOT, but the water was oh so cold. You could not walk across the sand! And it was crowded!! But we had fun and didn't get too burnt.

We had a rain day, but the next day we made it to Frontier Town and the Water Park. It was the first time the kids have ever been to a water park. There was a height restriction of 42" and I think Jason made it in by a hair. I ended up having him wear swimmies the entire time and he had a ball. There was a lazy river, 2 tube slides and a speed slide. Click on the picture to enlarge and I think you can see Jason's smiling face :)

We went to the Chuck Wagon Cookout at the Rill's farm and brought home a souvenir. We named her Hayley because one of the girls found her in the hay. She had her bath and her eyes are clearing up. She seems pretty friendly around us. Josie's not too sure about her yet. We'll see how that goes.

Today was Katie's Farewell to Cranberry Station. Her theme was "Reach for the moon and even if you miss, you'll still land among the stars!" I made the silver moon and stars hanging over the stage.

Camping with the Cub Scouts

Justin's Pack had a camping weekend at Rocky Gap State Park. I have not camped in a tent since 1994, but of course it was for Justin, so we went. The first picture is where we set up our tent. Our tent is the one with the yellow, in the middle. We left Friday after school. The next picture is from our hike on Saturday. The Webelos needed to go on a 3.5 mile hike. We hiked around the entire lake in 95 degree weather. We ended up walking 5 miles in 3 hours. Those boys were troopers! The third picture is a view from our hike looking over the lake.

We had a monthly Pack meeting on Saturday night. Justin earned his Bear patch. As a bear, he got to put on a bear arm and scratch a log and roar like a bear. Now he will move on to earning his Webelos patch. Way to go Justin!

We ALL had such a wonderful time despite the heat that we're excited to go again!

5th Grade Picnic

Today was Katie's 5th Grade Picnic. They went to Piney Run Park. Joe and I went and had a great time. The weather was just perfect. Here they were getting their picture taken as a class.

They had scheduled game time. The first one was water balloon toss. The first picture was taken after the first round of tossing. Believe it or not, they managed to pick up all those balloon pieces!

Then they had a tug-of-war contest.

They also had a rock climbing wall. Joe had to give it a try.

And of course, the highlight of my day (NOT) this beautiful snake!

She has a farewell on Monday, June 9th. June 10th is her last day of school. I can't believe she'll no longer be in elementary school. Why do they grow up so quickly?

I bought a roll of 6 inch by 25 yard tulle. Before I took off the plastic, I drew a center line on the wrapping and took a razor blade and cut the whole way down to the cardboard.

I don't know how long it ended up being, I just knitted until I came to the end of 1/2 my tulle. I was afraid to pull the tulle tight, but I did and it ended up looking pretty good. Not sure the cost is worth it. The roll cost $2.99, I had 40% Michael's coupon (silly to use it on such a small item, I know) and my newly 6% tax, it came to: $.95 per tribble or scrubbie as most know it.

Grand Prix

We had our annual Grand Prix car race at church on January 19th. They had it on a Saturday with both the boys an girls racing on the same day. We ALL had a wonderful time. Katie's in the first picture, Justin is in the second picture. The third picture is Katie with her THIRD PLACE RIBBON. Yeah Katie!

Jason has to be in third grade before he can race. He'll race a boat on February 27th.

Pine Car Derby

Justin had his first Pine Car Derby race with the Boy Scouts on January 12, 2008. He made a famous "Mr. Nutty" race car that was the neatest thing! He won third place out of 25 boys racing! Great job Justin. His trouphy was so cool, we're making a shelf for it!

The boy scouts had a Pine Car Derby Race on January 12, 2008. They also had a silent auction of cakes. This was my cake. It brought in $50 for those boys!! I was so excited, the highest bid out of 20 cakes!

MY Needle Roll

It's blue, my favorite color, and it hold TONS of needles. All those needles are pushed the whole way down. I have 5 inch double pointed needles, and you can clearly see where they are. Its amazing how it rolls up so nice and tight. Believe it or not, I'm missing a bunch. I have things on the needles right now and I lent 2 pairs out.

Needle Holders

I have met a talented young man named Brian. He joined my knitting group and has contacted me about these beautiful sewn needle holders. He was gracious enough to donate a good bit of them for our prize boxes that we send out for FUN with KNITTING contests we have in the group. I can not wait for a contest, just to add one to the box!

I really liked this purple one. I'm not sure if you can see, but it has two layers to hold needles, short ones and long ones.

This holder is orange and red and the picture doesn't do it justice. Its beautiful!!

Justin's new bulletin board. I saw these in a craft store for $26.00. I got the board at Wal-Mart for $6.00. Bought a few of those wooden things at Michael's and away I went. It's for his new room. His other board was about 12" x 12" and everything was falling off. This one is 17" x 23". I can't wait for his room to be finished!!

50th Anniversary Scrapbook

We gave my in-laws a suprise 50th Anniversary party on January 20th. There were very surprised and had the time of their lives! So many people came to help celebrate. The food was great, the room was wonderful and it was just a great day!

Here is the scrapbook I made with my Cricut. My mom came down and helped. I'm not the creative one, she is. The scrapbook turned out wonderful, I can't wait to give it to them. We took a picture of everyone that was there and had them sign a card to keep in the scrapbook.

We Got SNOW

The kids just can't get enough of the snow. Last snow fall, you couldn't make anything, it was so light. This snow was perfect for snowballs and SNOWMEN! I had no carrots, so that's celery in his nose. They're crossing their fingers for no school, but I'm saying, PLEASE have school. They have missed 4 days so far this year.

Sailboat Regatta

Look what I made today!! It's dust cover for my Cricut machine. I went to Wal-Mart and saw some beautiful material (the blue) and just had to have it. I bought 2 yards. I had no idea what I was going to make. Later I decided to make a cover for my cricut. This one is actually for my mom. I will embroider her name on the pink section. That was fun! I better get making some more.

Ocean City, Maryland "WINTERFEST OF LIGHTS"

This is what Ocean City looks like in the winter! No one on the beach in the middle of the day. Oh, plus winter jackets! When we told Jason we were going for a walk on the beach, he decided to take off his shoes and socks and put his swimming trunks on!

We went to the WINTERFEST OF LIGHTS and suprisingly, it was not crowded at all. We didn't even wait in line. The kids all had a good time and enjoyed the lights.

Cookie Time

We had our annual cookie baking day. This has been a tradition for a long time, I believe before Katie was born. We made 16 different cookies. When we were finished, we had almost 1,000 cookies. The first picture was just the beginning and of course, I forgot to take a picture of the end result. The middle picture is my grandma, my mom, and me on the top row. I've tried to list most of them below, but that's only about 1/2 of what I received. I really liked the name "Bamboozled" because I thought it would get attention from the judges. Girl Scout Halloween Party

The girls had a Halloween Party last night. I made all matching shirts with glow in the dark thread. The web glowed and the spiders eyes and teeth glowed. The names on their backs glowed too. They all had a great time playing games, making cupcakes, making crafts and listening to a spooky story in the dark (where their shirts glowed!).

Annapolis, Maryland

I was a chaperone on the 4th grade trip to our state capital, Annapolis. We first had a tour guide that took us through the state capital building, down Maryland Avenue and to the Navel Academy. Our tour guide, Anne, was just wonderful. I learned so much about the history of our capital. We saw where Senator Haines and Mrs. Stockdale sat during their meetings.

At the Navel Academy, we saw the noon time formation which takes place every day, weather permitting. After formation, they all marched to the dining hall. We saw the statue where the "plebs" attempt to climb every year.

We took a boat ride around the harbor. We could see the Bay Bridge. The captain of the boat played YMCA for the children. We all had a beautiful day!

Girl Scout Camping

The Girl Scouts went camping at Hawshawa from Saturday to Sunday. We had a little rain when we got there, but it stopped quickly. We had such a great time. We had 11 girls and 4 adults. We went with another troop that had 13 girls and 4 adults. The girls learned so much and kept busy the entire time. Katie lit her first match as a requirement for a badge. They earned 5 badges that weekend.

I'm in a Fall Exchange with Stuff Knitters Want Group and have 2 exchangees this time around. I'm having way too much fun making these stitch markers. Katie and I are still selling them on eBay. She's looking forward to getting a few dollars in her pocket.

Socks - 4th Pair

I've been wanting to try some self-stripping sock yarn, but of course Michael's does not carry anything like that. So, I placed an order with Knit Picks. I couldn't just order one, so I ordered enough yarn to make 2 sets of socks (plus some wool). I used the pattern from Knitting Socks Online Class, by Kristin. This was my 4th pair using her pattern. If you have not made socks yet, I suggest checking out her site. She has the best instructions and best pictures I've seen. I think I'm ready to try a different pattern now. I used Parade, sport weight. I bought 2 skeins at only $2.49 each. I used size 3 US double pointed needles. I used 2 sets. After I casted on my first sock, I casted on my second so I could start at the exact spot. I took turns knitting both socks, so I would finish them at the same time. I really wanted to make sure they matched. And they did!

I also bought some Simple Stripes, finger weight yarn. I think I'm going to try a "toe up" pattern so I don't run out of yarn. I only have 2 feet left from the first pair. Good thing I stopped the ribbing when I did! I'm also going to knit on size 1 US or 2 US, but I need to buy another set of one of them.

First Day of School

Fall Stitch Markers

Terry Cloth

A wonderful friend sent some terry cotton yarn. I tried to crochet with it and I couldn't get the yarn through the holes. The yellow one is a garter stitch using size 7 needles and the orange one is a stockinette stitch using size 6 needles.

Odds and Ends Dishcloths

A recent question on my Yahoo Group (Monthly Dishcloths) was: "What does everyone do with those little balls of yarn that are left over from a full dishcloth?" Here's what I do:

This is Grandma's Favorite. I start with a small ball and when I'm almost to the end, I start knitting with a new small ball. In this picture, I used up 4 small balls that I had sitting around. I used the "knit-in join" method to start with a new color.

This is a Kitchen Cotton pattern. I picked a solid color that I had a bigger ball of and knitted the first 2 rows with that color. When I got to the K1, P1 row, I used my little, tiny balls. In this picture, I used up 6 little, tiny balls. None of the little balls really matched each other, but I think it looks like a dishcloth over the rainbow.

First Stitch Marker Exchange

A Yahoo Group called: Stuff Knitters Want and Gotta Have had a stitch marker exchange. This was my first marker exchange and was just thrilled by what I received. Deb from Little Rock picked out a beautiful butterfly glass bead just for me. She made matching side markers too. I love the way she tied them all together with a bow. Now I have to find some special way to display them. Some kind of padded board. Thanks so much Deb! I'm ready for my next exchange.

Huntingdon County, PA

Our vacation in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania...

We went to a small outdoor Amish Farmer's Market in Belleville, PA. They all drive horse and buggies, so this is a picture of their "parking lot". We bought 10 dozen ears of corn to come home and freeze. Got to love fresh corn in the freezer.

Next, we went to Lincoln Caverns in Huntingdon. The temperature in the caverns is always 52 degrees. It felt so good inside. It was a very interesting story to those caverns that we all enjoyed.

Next, was Horseshoe Curve in Altoona. What a beautiful scene.

Next, we went to Trough Creek State Park. We walked over a Swinging Bridge, past Rainbow Falls, past the Rhododendron Trail and up to Balanced Rock.

Balanced Rock appears to be perched on the edge of a cliff, ready to fall off at any moment into Great Trough Creek far below. This “erosion remnant” has hung here for thousands of years. Once part of a higher cliff, the hard rock of Balanced Rock was sitting on a layer of soft rock. The soft rock on the cliff face eroded first, easing Balanced Rock into its angled perch hanging over the valley. Eventually the soft rock around Balanced Rock eroded away, leaving the rock balanced on the edge of the cliff.

Last, was the East Broad Top Railroad in Orbisonia. It was an 11 mile ride and a rickety track. The kids loved it.

I made a Bath Set for a friend who watched my children at the beach. I never made a soap sac before. I'd like to make one for myself to try. I think the cord is a little long and a little big. Embroidered Pillow

I love to embroider and when I saw these two designs, I thought they would make great pillows. The design on the left took almost 2 hours just for the embroidery work. The one on the right was about 90 minutes. I think they are both beautiful and well worth the time. I get ALL my designs from Embroidery Library.

Hershey Park Happy!

We all spent the day at Hershey Park with my mom. Thanks Mom! It was hot, but we all had a wonderful time. Jason rode his first roller coaster, the Trail Blazer, and Justin rode his first upside down roller coaster, Sidewinder. Joe and I rode the Storm Runner. It was short, but WOW it was fun. The picture of the red coaster, is the Storm Runner.

Chocolate World

We went to Hershey Park today and stopped at Chocolate World on the way into the park. They have renovated the "ride" yet again this year. They feature the singing cows. They were cute. And the chocolate smelled WONDERFUL!

What Time Is It?

It's BIBLE TIME!

It was Neighborhood Bible Time at our church all week. Sunday to Friday. There were 3 classes for each grade, 1st - 6th. In each class, there was a teacher, a missionary and an assistant. This year, I was an assistant for a 6th grade class. We had an hour and 10 minutes of classroom time, 10 minutes for a snack, and an hour of rally time. Mr. Robert was our evangelist for the week and had LOTS of excitement to share with the children.

The pictures are of Trish's and my kids, children arriving and waiting for class to start in the 99 degree heat!, change offering and buckets of bricks (you could buy a brick for $5) It was a contest between the boys and girls every night and whose bucket weighed more, and Evangeline the Elf. If you brought a friend to NBT, you could go with Evangeline and see her Ice Room and get a freeze pop and "snow" in your hair.

July Donations for Project Linus

During summer months, donations are low for Project Linus. Judy, our coordinator, requested blankets for the summer to see how many we could donate. I just finished up 9 blankets and turned them in at the drop off site. They're so cute. I believe I finally made 59 blankets since April 2005!

Ocean City, Maryland

We spent a week at our condo in Ocean City, Maryland. We went with another couple from church and their 3 children. That's 4 adults and 6 children in a tiny, but fun ocean condo. We had a wonderful time. It was the first year down at the beach for the 4th of July and it was worth it! We stood on our balcony and watched the huge display of fireworks at North Side Park. They were so big and beautiful. What a treat!

Summer Stomp 2006

I made it through this year's Summer Stomp sponsored by Church of the Open Door. We had 130 children from grades 2nd through 6th. They arrived Monday afternoon and will leave Friday night. I was in charge of the arts and craft time of the day. They had some wonderful preaching of the word of God. I believe my two children were a little home sick even though I was there every day. It was so quiet around here and they're little brother, Jason, didn't miss them a bit. He got a lot of attention from Daddy all week. Ok, back to knitting, sewing and embroidery.

Dance

My daughter just had her annual dance recital and I just loved this picture and had to share. She had 10 friends and family members watching her. She was so beautiful on stage. She really made me proud of her!

Project Linus Blanket

Since I learned to crochet, I thought I would try a blanket. It turned out much better than I thought it would. It will now go on to Project Linus. If you are not familiar with Project Linus, I suggest going to their web site.

Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission:

Josie's New Bed

Since I've learned to crochet and had tons of that "rough" yarn, I decided to try a different crochet pattern for my cat, Josie (aka Josie Geller from Never Been Kissed). I put an old pillow inside with TONS of cat nip. She loves that stuff. I put it in a nice sunny window and now she's in heaven. I have one more knitted blanket to finish and one crocheted blanket to finish. With the kids getting out of school tomorrow, this might be difficult to complete.

I finally taught myself to crochet. I'm sure I don't know enough for a large project, but I knew enough to make this hand bag. I found the pattern on the Bernat web site. I took it one step further and made a liner with 2 pockets. My daughter says it looks like a Granny purse.

A wonderful member of my Monthly Dishcloth Yahoo Group, mailed me some yarn that she had and did not have a use for. It was like acrylic, but rougher. I told her, I'd find something to make with it and I did. I made a plastic bag holder. It was perfect! It was so nice that my grandmother saw it and "needed" one too. Mine is on the left, her's on the right. My next project with the "rough" yarn will be a cat bed. Thank you Maggie!

Bookmarks

I joined a bookmark group called Bookmark Traders. If you like bookmarks in any way, I suggest checking out this Yahoo Group. So, I decided to knit a bookmark. That was not easy! The thread kept slipping off the needle and the needle was so small. I used a size 2 US and found the pattern called "Lace Bookmark". I used some crochet thread I had and might try a little thicker yarn next time. Since knitting was not fun, I thought I'd let my embroidery machine do all the work. I bought a beautiful Lilac design and let the machine go. It turned out a little small for me, only 4 inches high. I'll enlarge it and try again.

I finally finished a pretty baby blanket I've been working on. My neighbor is having a boy, #6 child. She's amazing! Then I saw the bunny pattern on Lion Brand's web site and just had to make it. Very easy to make and FUN.

I received my "puffy" from a Monthly Dishcloth Group member named Jen yesterday. She did such a wonderful job knitting a beautiful dragonfly in such a beautiful color, navy. I love blues and have never seen navy before, so this was a special treat for me. She found the pattern at Purple Duckie. Thank you Jen, you made my day!

Jason's 3rd Birthday

May 10th was my baby's 3rd birthday. Its so hard to believe he is 3 now. I decided to make him a special cake for his birthday this year since I love to decorate cakes. His favorite character is Dora, but Michael's did not have that one in stock, so we went with his second favorite, Sponge Bob!

Master Clubs Regionals

Regionals #8

Our church has a program for children ages 3 to grade 6. The program is called Master Clubs. I help with the 3rd graders every Wednesday night during the school year. On Saturday, the children in grades 3 to 6 were able to compete in a competition against other churhes in the area called Regionals. The Master Club Regionals are the largest competitions of the year. The children competed in bible events, music events, craft events, team events and athletic events. ALL the children did so well, I was so happy and so excited for them. This was my first year at this huge event (150 children, 10 churches) and I had a BLAST! I can't wait to get working on next year. This was my daughter's first year too (the blonde). Although she did not receive a ribbon, she still had tons of fun and is ready for next year.

FUN with KNITTING

I'm having a little fun with my Monthly Dishcloth group. The knitters had to guess how many dishcloths were stacked up. It took me a couple weeks to knit all of them, but it was fun and I got to try a bunch of different patterns.

If you knit and think you might like to knit some dishcloths, come join the group. We KAL (knit-a-long) to two dishcloth patterns a month. The first pattern has a seasonal theme and the second one has a "new" stitch to learn. Come on, its fun!

Of course this one is Grandma's Favorite,

the easiest of dishcloths.

This dish cloth was from The Dishcloth Boutique.

This one is called "Open Star". I just love all their patterns and find myself looking there a lot. This was a very quick knit and looked awesome when finished.

This pattern came from Creative Knitting.

I was so upset with the magazine because there was a mistake in the magazine. I didn't think to look on the web site before I started the cloth. Lesson learned.

Every blanket goes to a child that has been hospitalized or in a trama situation. What joy it is to be wrapped in a blanket made of love. I get such a joy out of making these blankets. Every time I drop some off, I get a great big smile on my way out. I just finished 15 fleece blankets for donation. Our local chapter is having a raffle for a $100 gift certificate to Wal-Mart. You get one entry for each blanket your donate the first quarter of the year. Wish me luck!

I finished my cat! I'm so excited to finally get it out of my living room. My daughter loves cats and collects them. I thought I would make this for her collection. It was easier than I thought it would be.

I finally finished an afghan that I started about 4 months ago. I haven't been knitting on it straight. I put it down and haven't picked it back up for a long time. But I'm done and its warm!
I'm so excited that I got one project off the needles. Only 2 more to go. I'm working on a stuffed cat and a sweater which has been on the needle since March 15, 2005.
